Why is wood a good choice as a raw material?
EVERY CHOICE COUNTS TO MAINTAIN A SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LIFESTYLE.
At WATERROWER | NOHRD, we pride ourselves on creating fitness equipment that not only improves your well-being, but also contributes to a healthier planet. A key aspect of our commitment to sustainability lies in the hardwood used in our equipment.
RENEWABLE HARDWOOD SOURCES
All wood products used by WATERROWER | NOHRD come from carefully managed, renewable sources in the United States and Europe. This ensures that the rate of harvesting is balanced with the rate of regrowth, preserving the health and vitality of the forests. By choosing hardwood from these responsible sources, we support sustainable forestry practices that contribute to the overall well-being of the environment.
The wood used to make the WaterRower is sourced from the forests of the Appalachian Mountains in North America. This wood comes exclusively from members of the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Trade Association (AHMI). Thanks to modern forest management techniques used by our responsible suppliers, the region has added one billion trees since 2007, and 300,000 hectares of Appalachian forest has been added in the past 25 years. That’s 33 hectares a day. In other words, more trees are regrowing in the mountains every second than it takes to make a WaterRower.
THE CARBON CAPTURE STORY - how to capture carbon
Wood has an incredible ability to capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and convert it into oxygen, while storing carbon in their fibers. An average-sized oak tree absorbs 165 kg of carbon dioxide per year. This carbon remains locked up in the wood even after the tree is harvested, making it a natural and effective carbon sink.
Wood products made from wood from sustainably managed forests thus serve to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
DURABILITY AND RESISTANCE
One of the most important properties of hardwood is its durability. The robust nature of hardwood allows our fitness equipment to stand the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This longevity is not only cost-effective for our customers, but also plays a significant role in promoting sustainability. The longer a product lasts, the less demand there is for new resources.
RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION
WATERROWER | NOHRD is committed to minimizing its carbon footprint throughout the entire production process. We employ energy-efficient practices in our production facilities to further reduce our environmental impact. Measures include the extensive use of solar panels for power supply. During the winter months, heat comes from biomass furnaces, which are fueled by production waste.
CHOOSING A SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE
When you choose a WATERROWER | NOHRD product, you are not only investing in your health; you are choosing a more sustainable lifestyle. Our commitment to using hardwood from renewable sources is a good example of our commitment to environmental responsibility.
In the world of fitness equipment, every material choice matters. At WATERROWER | NOHRD, we believe in the power of sustainable exercise, and our use of hardwood from renewable sources is proof of that commitment. Join us on the journey to a greener, healthier future – one step at a time.
